Metallic Silhouette Match Schedule
DATES:
Our shooting season will run from Oct. thru March (November
is skipped). Matches are scheduled on the third Saturday
of each month.
For
2012, the match dates are: Jan. 21, Feb. 18, Mar. 17, Oct.
20, Dec. 15
SANCTIONING:
All matches except for the 2 noted on page 2, will be NRA
approved matches. Classification books cost $13. There are
separate books for rifle and pistol. Each book contains
all types of silhouette rifle or pistol competition categories.
TIME:
Entries will be accepted from 9 AM till 10 AM. Firing begins
at 10 AM.
Competition
is open to the public.
COURSE
OF FIRE: 40 rounds of Metallic Silhouette in standing
position only. Squads will fire 10 rounds, in 2 strings
of 5 at each bank of animals. All positions on the firing
line on all banks of animals are fired at the start of each
relay. Competitors are urged to bring their own spotters.
If you have a free relay, we urge you to spot for someone.
TARGETS:
Metallic Silhouette animals, 1/2 size per NRA rules for
Hunters Pistol and Cowboy Rifle course; Chickens at 40 meters,
pigs at 50 meters, turkeys at 75 meters and rams at 100
meters.
For
the Small bore Rifle and Small bore Hunter Rifle, targets
are 1/5 size per NRA rules. Chickens at 40 meters, Pigs
at 60 meters, Turkeys at 76 meters and Rams at 100 meters.

Hunter Rifle
RULES:
All NRA rules apply. We urge you to obtain a copy of the
rulebook, as it is not possible to cover all the rules in
this flyer. All competitors are required to wear eye and
ear protection while on the firing line. No one may place,
handle or remove guns at the firing line while target setters
are down range. An open action indicator or chamber safety
flag must be inserted in the action or chamber of the gun
while moving it to or from the firing line or while the
gun is uncased except when actually handling the gun during
the ready period and shooting period. Open action indicators
are available for sale at $2 each.
All
competitors are required to have a waiver of liability on
file at the club whether a club member or not. Once you
have a signed waiver on file at DSA, you do not need to
sign another waiver for the current calendar year.
AWARDS:
Awards schedule will be posted at the match.
FEES:
1 or 2 Guns - $10. For each additional gun the cost is $5.
NRA Classification books are $13 each for rifle and pistol.
Classification
books, Rulebooks and Open Action Indicators will be available
for purchase at the match.

GUN AND
RULES:
Cowboy
Rifles described below.
PISTOL
CARTRIDGE COWBOY LEVER ACTION : Any lever action center
fire rifle with a tubular magazine. Firing rimmed pistol
cartridges loaded with a flat nosed bullet must be used.
Approved cartridges are 25-20, 32-20, .38’s, 357 magnum,
38-40, .44’s, 44-40, 45 colt, 45 long colt, 22 magnum, 22
long rifle.
SMALLBORE
COWBOY RIFLE: Any lever action, pump or semi-auto rimfire
rifle with a tubular magazine. 22 Long Rifle ammunition
only.
Sights:
Rear sights may be open sights, receiver or tang sights.
Front sights must be a post or bead and may be hooded. Binoculars
only for spotting purposes. No shooting jackets, shooting
vests or gloves will be allowed except gloves may be worn
for warmth.
Smallbore
Rifle and Smallbore Hunter Rifle described below.
Smallbore
Silhouette Rifle: Any scope or metallic sights may be used.
Max wt is 10 lb 2 oz. Any safe trigger, not subject to accidental
discharge. Gun is chambered for 22 rimfire only. Hot loads
such as .22 magnum or “Stingers” are prohibited.
Smallbore
Hunting Silhouette Rifle: A hunting style rifle. Stock is
of a typical hunting rifle. Max weight, 8.5 lbs. No thumbhole
stocks allowed. A hunting style barrel that tapers down
from chamber to muzzle. Any scope or metallic sights may
be used. Trigger pull not less than 2 lbs. If the rifle
is a repeater, all rounds must be cycled through the magazine.
No single loading except for single shot rifles and shootoffs.
Gun is chambered for 22 rimfire only. Hot loads such as
.22 magnum or “Stingers” are prohibited.
Pistols
described below.
HUNTERS
PISTOL: Guns must be standard production revolver, single
shot or semi-auto. Scopes, any safe trigger and any conventional
grips are allowed. Weight limit is 5 pounds. Max barrel
length is 12 inches. Only the following pistol cartridges
may be used: .22 rimfire, .22 Hornet, .25-20, .270 Ren.,
.30 Carbine, .32, .32-20, 9mm, .357, .357 Auto Mag, all
standard .38 and .380 pistol and revolver cartridges, 10mm,
.40 S&W, .41 AE, .41, .44, and 45 caliber identical
in exterior case dimensions to unaltered factory pistol
cases. Shooters firing any load that damages targets will
be disqualified. (Note; .22 Hornet factory ammo will damage
targets. Also, full house .454 Casull, .460 S&W and
500 S&W will not be allowed. In the 454 and 460, you
may use these guns provided that you use a shorter case
such as 45 Colt etc
HUNTERS
PISTOL OPEN SIGHTS: Identical to above description except
only open or hunting style peep sights, including an adjustable
aperture, are allowed. Optical, electronic and Olympic style
sights are not permitted. Front sights may be hooded.
SMALLBORE
HUNTERS PISTOL: Identical to Hunters Pistol description
except that ammo is .22 rimfire only. Not allowed; .22
Magnum or Hyper velocity loads such as CCI Stinger, Remington
Viper etc.
SMALLBORE
HUNTERS PISTOL OPEN SIGHTS: Identical to above description
for Hunters Pistol Open Sights except that gun must be chambered
for .22 short, long or long rifle only. Not allowed;
.22 Magnum or Hyper velocity loads such as CCI Stinger,
Remington Viper etc.
THE
FOLLOWING 2 CLASSES OF GUNS ARE NOT SANCTIONED FOR COMPETITION,
BUT YOU MAY BRING THEM AND SHOOT THEM FOR FUN. AFTER ALL,
THAT’S WHAT WE’RE HERE FOR.
ADDITIONALLY,
YOUTH SHOOTERS MAY USE A REST OR USE THE SHOOTING STAND
AS A REST IF THE STANDING POSITION PROVES TOO DIFFICULT.
RIMFIRE
OPEN SIGHT RIFLE: Any .22 caliber rimfire rifle with iron
sights only. (Globe and peep sights are included.) No scopes,
DOT sights or Laser sights allowed.
RIMFIRE
OPTICAL SIGHT RIFLE: Same as above except optical sights
may be used with a magnification of 4X or less, and will
be fired exclusively on the 3/8” thick animals. No laser
sights allowed.
For
the thin small bore animals, ammo will be limited to same
as described above for Smallbore Hunters Pistol.
.22
Magnum and Hyper Velocity ammo must be shot at the heavier
3/8 thick animals.
ANY
ACTION TYPE IS ALLOWED EXCEPT FULL AUTO
